Clued

Guess the 5-letter word from its definition. No colours -- correctly placed letters fill in like Hangman. Each wrong guess unlocks a new vocabulary clue.

How Clued works

Vocabulary meets deduction

1

Open with a cold guess

Your first guess comes with no clues at all. Play a strong starting word and see which letters land in place.

2

Letters fill in like Hangman

When you guess a letter in the right position, it fills the tile permanently. No green or yellow -- just confirmed letters and blanks.

3

New clues unlock as you go

Each wrong guess reveals a new clue: the definition, then a synonym, then the word type, and finally the first letter. Six guesses to get it.

Clue progression

What unlocks each attempt

Guess 1
No clues -- cold guess

You start with nothing but the blank tiles. Play a strong opening word and see which letters land.

Guess 2
+ Definition

After your first wrong guess, a clear definition of the word appears.

Guess 3
+ Synonym

A single word with a similar meaning. A different angle on the same idea.

Guess 4
+ Word type

Noun, verb or adjective -- narrows down the grammatical shape of the answer.

Guess 5
+ First letter

The first letter fills into the tiles automatically, giving a solid foothold.

Guess 6
Last chance

Every clue is visible and the first letter is confirmed. Make it count.

FAQ

Common questions

What is Clued?

Clued is a free daily word game. Each day you have six attempts to guess a hidden 5-letter word. Correctly placed letters fill into the tiles like Hangman. Each wrong guess unlocks a new vocabulary clue.

How is it different from Wordle?

Wordle shows colour feedback -- green for right position, yellow for wrong position. Clued has no colour hints. Instead, the clues are vocabulary-based (definition, synonym, example) and any letter in the correct position fills straight into the tile.

How many guesses do I get?

Six. Your first guess is cold with no clues. After that, each wrong guess unlocks a new clue -- definition, synonym, word type, then the first letter is automatically revealed in the tiles.

When does the new word appear?

Every day at midnight. Your progress is saved automatically so you can close the browser and come back.

Is Clued good for vocabulary?

Yes. Whether you solve it or not, each puzzle teaches you a word through its definition, synonym and word type -- building vocabulary naturally through daily play.
