FAQ
Common questions
How does Borderline work?
A mystery country is hidden on the world map. You guess by naming countries. Each guess reveals how close you are based on distance and direction from your guess to the target. You have four guesses.
Is Borderline like Wordle?
It shares the one-puzzle-per-day format and colour-coded feedback, but the mechanic is geography-based. Each wrong guess shows an arrow pointing toward the target country and the distance in kilometres, so the clues build with every attempt.
How many guesses do I get?
Four guesses. After each wrong answer you see an arrow pointing toward the mystery country and the distance in kilometres.
What countries can appear?
All 195 UN-recognised sovereign nations are potential targets. Every country in the world (large or small) can appear as the mystery country.
Is Borderline free to play?
Yes. Borderline is completely free. Today's puzzle is always available without signing in, and past puzzles are replayable through the Borderline archive. Sign in only if you want your streak and progress synced across visits.
What are some tips for solving Borderline faster?
Start with a country near the geographic centre of the world, somewhere in central Africa or the Middle East. This gives you a useful first distance reading to eliminate entire continents. Pay close attention to the direction arrow: combined with the distance in kilometres, it narrows the target down very quickly after two or three guesses.
